Danewitz PV Plant

Germany

Development of a hybrid project combining Agri-PV and ground-mounted PV power plants

Project

The hybrid project consists of two photovoltaic installations: a 40 MWp ground-mounted PV plant and a 9 MWp Agri-PV plant, partially using semi-transparent modules. The ground-mounted PV system is designed with an east-west orientation, while the Agri-PV system faces south and features elevated panels installed over berry crops at a height of 3.5 meters, with rows spaced 2.8 meters apart. Located northeast of the town boundary, the Agri-PV installation spans an area between 400 and 800 meters. A key challenge in the project was navigating a cross-running gas pipeline. The project has been submitted to the Fraunhofer ISE research institute for inclusion in Germany’s national Agri-PV strategy. A local project development company will oversee the project, with construction expected to take between 6 and 12 months. The PV plant will connect to the 110kV grid through an operator-owned substation.

Highlights

The Danewitz project is set to power around 18,000 households. The development also includes measures for visual screening through early planting, extended distance from the settlement, and fencing with native plant species. The elevated Agri-PV system, positioned over berry crops, will offer benefits such as weather protection, reduced crop damage, and lower pesticide use.
